The Korea Football Association (KFA), which decided to openly select an interim head coach and coaching staff to lead the men's national football team, announced the screening procedures and schedule today (July 30).
The KFA previously approved the selection process for an interim head coach to lead the national team during the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) A-match periods scheduled from September to November through a board of directors meeting on the 24th.
Accordingly, the interim head coach selection process will proceed through an open recruitment method in accordance with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee's national team selection and operation regulations.
The KFA has previously selected head coaches for the men's under-20 (U-20) national team and the Olympic national team through open recruitment.
This is the first time in history, across both men's and women's teams, that the senior national team head coach is being selected through open recruitment.
Application documents will be accepted starting today until 5:00 PM on August 9.
Following this, document screening and interview evaluations will be conducted, and after finalizing the ranking of presidential candidates for the head coach position, contract negotiations will begin.
The evaluation committee will consist of KFA National Team Committee members and external evaluators, comprehensively assessing applicants' professionalism and national team management capabilities.
As the A-match period begins immediately on September 21, the KFA plans to complete the head coach selection process within August.
Applicants must apply as a single coaching staff unit, consisting of a head coach and a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 7 coaching staff members.
The coaching staff members include coaches, goalkeeper coaches, physical coaches, and analysts, and cannot be changed after application.
Domestic head coach applicants must hold both the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Pro coaching license or equivalent qualification and a Level 2 Professional Sports Instructor license.
Foreign head coach applicants are required to hold the highest-grade coaching license issued by a continental confederation affiliated with FIFA.
For domestic coaches, an AFC A coaching license and a Level 2 Professional Sports Instructor license are required, while foreign coaches must possess qualifications appropriate to their respective fields along with at least 5 years of coaching experience.
Applicants must submit their licenses, resumes, cover letters, and national team operation plans.
The KFA stated, "As there are concerns and opinions from both inside and outside the football community regarding the open recruitment process for the senior national team head coach, we plan to carefully gather the pros and cons derived from this open recruitment process."
