Just a day after group BTS announced their decision to boycott the submission for the U.S. Grammy Awards, suspicions arose that their past performance videos had disappeared from the official Grammy website.
On the 30th, rumors spread rapidly online that BTS's performance videos for "Butter" and "Dynamite" could no longer be found on the official Grammy website.
Pop Core, an overseas pop music media outlet, reported via social media that the Recording Academy appeared to have taken down the videos directly, sharing a screenshot of the Grammy website displaying an error message.
This suspicion has drawn even greater scrutiny as it comes immediately after BTS's boycott declaration.
Previously, on the 29th, BTS stated on their official social media, "We have decided not to submit to the Grammys this year. We hope that music will be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being categorized by region or language."
Within the music industry, this decision is widely interpreted as a de facto protest against the newly established "Best Asian Pop Music Performance" category by the Grammys. Criticism has been raised that grouping Asian music into a single regional unit and placing it in a separate category could act as a mechanism to subtly block entry into the main awards.
Meanwhile, following the announcement of BTS's refusal to submit to the Grammys, Epik High's Tablo and director Maggie Kang, who directed the animated film "KPop Demon Hunters", shared the news and sent messages of support, while music producer Mike Will Made-It also expressed his backing.
