The Chinese government has strongly protested the United States' ban on imports of foreign advanced robots and power converters, calling it a "classic market distortion and unilateral bullying."
A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce criticized the move today, stating that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) inclusion of new advanced robot models and power converters under import bans "outwardly claims to be non-discriminatory, but in reality, it is a measure to discriminate against and suppress Chinese companies and products."
The spokesperson continued, "Despite China's repeated representations, the United States continues to issue restrictive measures and expand them. This severely undermines China's legitimate trade interests, harms the stability of China-U.S. economic and trade relations, and causes chaos in the stability of global industrial and supply chains."
Criticism was also raised that the U.S. is overinterpreting the concept of national security to hinder normal corporate transactions.
The Commerce Ministry spokesperson claimed, "Robots and power converters are normal international trade goods, and the U.S. and other countries benefit through trade. The U.S. is mobilizing administrative power under the guise of national security and artificially interfering with normal commercial transactions between companies."
The spokesperson urged the U.S. to "immediately withdraw the related measures," warning that "if the United States insists on its wrongful actions, China will take firm countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests."
Previously, the U.S. FCC announced on the 28th (local time) that it would ban the import of new foreign robot models and power converters to protect national security and critical infrastructure.
Regarding the robot import ban, the FCC stated, "Data collected by advanced robotic devices can be exploited by malicious actors to monitor Americans, enhance the capabilities of foreign intelligence agencies, and remotely hijack robots."
It also pointed out that connected power converters could be arbitrarily shut down or used to collect and leak data by foreign companies connected to power grids and data centers, and could be exploited for cyber attacks.
