Iran has shattered a five-day lull in the conflict by attacking a U.S. military base in Jordan. President Trump reacted strongly, heavily implying retaliation, and the United States has resumed airstrikes against Iran.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran announced that it attacked a U.S. military base in Jordan on the 28th, local time.
In a statement, the Revolutionary Guard claimed, "In response to aggressive U.S. actions, we struck a U.S. Air Force base and a central command post stationed in Jordan with multiple ballistic missiles."
It also warned that resistance would continue if threats persisted, though it did not specify what the "aggressive actions" were.
The U.S. Central Command also confirmed Iran's attack, explaining, "All were successfully intercepted."
A U.S.-owned liquefied natural gas storage facility in Egypt was also struck by a drone.
U.S. President Donald Trump showed a fierce reaction during a broadcast interview, even using profanity, stating he would "pound" them.
He also publicly vowed powerful additional attacks.
[Donald Trump / U.S. President : Let us see if we can reach an agreement at some point. But we are going to hit them (Iran) very hard. Because now it is our turn to attack.]
Following Trump's remarks, the United States resumed bombing targets, including Qeshm Island in southern Iran, after six days.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Department of State designated Iran's Persian Gulf Maritime Insurance and the Strait of Hormuz Safe Maritime Services Authority—which have been levying tolls in the Strait of Hormuz—as financing sources for the "Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps" and placed them under sanctions.
Oil prices also fluctuated in response to Trump's remarks, with the closing price of Brent crude futures for September delivery surging 7.9% to $90.74 per barrel.
Fears of a wider war are growing further as Saudi Arabia has joined the U.S. airstrikes following Trump's hardline retaliatory remarks.
