Driven by a semiconductor boom, Samsung Electronics posted an operating profit of KRW 89.5 trillion in the second quarter of this year, breaking all-time records for three consecutive quarters. Following the strong earnings report, Samsung Electronics' stock price sharply rebounded at one point, prompting the KOSPI to attempt a recovery.

Samsung Electronics recorded all-time high quarterly earnings for the third consecutive quarter, with sales reaching KRW 171.5 trillion and an operating profit of KRW 89.5 trillion for the second quarter of this year.

The figures surpassed market expectations.

The strong performance was led by the semiconductor business.

The Device Solutions (DS) division posted record-high performance with sales of KRW 127.5 trillion and an operating profit of KRW 89.2 trillion.

This means the semiconductor business generated the vast majority of the company-wide operating profit.

Expanded investments in AI data centers drove up sales of HBM, server DRAM, and NAND flash, while the foundry and system LSI businesses also saw improved performance boosted by growing demand from client companies.

On the other hand, the Device Experience (DX) division—which oversees smartphones, TVs, and home appliances—recorded sales of KRW 48 trillion but suffered an operating loss of KRW 800 billion.

Although sales of premium products such as the Galaxy S26 series increased, rising component costs driven by higher memory prices led to the company's first-ever quarterly deficit since its founding.

Samsung Electronics projected that strong demand for AI semiconductors will continue in the second half of the year, backed by the expanded supply of HBM4.

Sentiment toward semiconductor investment also appears to be recovering following Samsung Electronics' strong performance.

The KOSPI, which had plunged for two consecutive days, is attempting to recover the 6,000 mark, fueled by the strength of semiconductor stocks including Samsung Electronics surging more than 7% during intraday trading.

Foreigners and institutional investors have turned to net buyers, while retail investors continue their net selling for the second consecutive day.
