Samsung Electronics has revealed its goal to break ground on its second foundry plant in Taylor, Texas, by the end of this year.
During an earnings conference call today (the 30th), Samsung Electronics addressed its plans to expand the Taylor fabrication plant, stating, "Currently, the expansion speed of advanced production capacity (CAPA) is failing to keep up with demand," and adding, "We are preparing to break ground on Taylor Fab 2 by the end of this year with the goal of mass production in 2030."
The company announced that preparations for launching Taylor Fab 1 are proceeding on schedule for 2026, after which it plans to expand 2-nanometer capacity in stages.
Samsung also explained, "In response to increasing customer inquiries regarding the 1.4-nanometer process, we are also considering securing additional fabs," adding, "Detailed plans will be fleshed out step-by-step based on customer order situations and discussions."
Mature processes are being converted to high-margin three-tier processes, and Samsung stated it is pursuing an operational strategy centered on focusing capabilities on high-value-added specialty demand with high technical barriers.
