"Five Iranian Military Advisers Killed in US-Saudi Airstrikes on Iraq"

At least five Iranian military advisers were killed in airstrikes by the United States and Saudi Arabia targeting pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, AFP reported on Tuesday (July 29), local time.

A source within the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi), a coalition of pro-Iranian Shia militias in Iraq, stated that "five Iranian advisers were killed in the US-Saudi airstrikes."

The sources added that the victims lost their lives in a strike carried out in Diyala Governorate, central Iraq.

In connection with this, AFP journalists reported seeing caskets draped in Iranian flags at a funeral for the victims held in Baghdad earlier that day, which was led by the Popular Mobilization Forces.

The Iranian daily Hamshahr also reported that military advisers belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in the US-Saudi airstrikes that took place the previous night.

However, Hamshahri mentioned that the death toll was four.

Iranian authorities have not yet officially confirmed the casualties among their advisory group.

Earlier, the Popular Mobilization Forces stated in a statement immediately following the US-Saudi airstrikes that at least 20 members lost their lives and 32 others were injured.
