▲ Kumamoto Prefecture affected by damage following an earthquake
Kyodo News reported that TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker (foundry), stated it will take some time to resume production at its plant in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.
According to the report, TSMC announced on that day that adjusting manufacturing equipment at the Kumamoto plant would take a certain amount of time.
Consequently, it is expected that it may take a few days for TSMC's Kumamoto plant to return to its normal production system.
TSMC operates its first plant in Kikuyo, Kumamoto Prefecture.
Previously, the company stated that immediately after the strong earthquake occurred the day before, it evacuated employees outdoors and then sequentially had them return after confirming the structural safety of the building.
In addition, according to Japan's Nippon TV, TSMC is conducting a detailed investigation into the impact of the strong earthquake on its first plant while partially suspending construction work on its second plant.
TSMC's first plant began operations in 2024, and it aims to mass-produce advanced 3-nanometer (nm) semiconductors at its second plant starting in 2028.
