Iran Condemns US and Saudi Strikes on Pro-Iranian Militias in Iraq

Following attacks by the United States and Saudi Arabia against pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the action.

In a statement issued on local time today (the 29th), the Iranian Foreign Ministry claimed, "The attacks by the US and Saudi Arabia targeted facilities and bases belonging to Iraqi government institutions, as well as the Arbaeen pilgrimage zone."

The Iranian Foreign Ministry went on to strongly criticize the move, stating, "This attack is a blatant violation of Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a clear breach of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law. It demonstrates the ambitions of the US and the Zionist regime (Israel) to expand war and conflict in the West Asia region."

It added, "We express our condolences to the Iraqi citizens who fell victim to this airstrike, and reaffirm Iran's full support and solidarity with the Iraqi government and people," warning that "the US government and its regional accomplices bear full responsibility for the dangerous consequences that such inhumane provocations will bring."

Earlier, the US Central Command stated, "Alongside Saudi forces on July 28, we conducted precision strikes against Iran-affiliated terrorists who directed attacks on US and Saudi energy infrastructure."

The Saudi Ministry of Defense also stated in a release that it carried out "limited and targeted strikes" alongside the US against pro-Iranian military groups in Iraq linked to attacks on its oil facilities.

Immediately following the airstrikes, the Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi, PMF), a pro-Iranian militia in Iraq, issued a statement announcing that at least 20 members were killed and 32 others were injured.
