It has been confirmed that the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, which passed Sub-committee No. 1 for Bill Examination under the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly led by the pan-ruling parties last night (the 28th), includes provisions to expand the grounds for dismissal of indictment.
Sub-committee No. 1 of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee processed the Criminal Procedure Act amendment, which abolishes the prosecutors' right to supplementary investigation, led by pan-ruling party members yesterday while members belonging to the People Power Party walked out.
The amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act that passed the sub-committee is known to contain contents expanding the grounds on which the court can make a decision to dismiss an indictment.
Acting Prosecutor General Gu Ja-hyun, along with former presidents of lawyers' associations, expressed concern, stating, "If supplementary investigations disappear, the truth could be concealed and the criminal justice system could collapse."
The Democratic Party has announced plans to hold a plenary session tomorrow to process the amendment.
