The Daegu District Court announced today (July 29) that Judge Kim Dong-seok, presiding over Criminal Single Division 1, has sentenced a man in his 60s, identified as A, to 10 months in prison on fraud charges for borrowing transportation money under the false pretense of leaving his bag on a train and failing to repay it.
A was put on trial for approaching pedestrians near Songpa-daero in Songpa-gu, Seoul, between April 14 and August 30 of last year, deceiving them by saying, "I left my bag on an SRT train, so I don't have my wallet or cell phone. My home is in Busan, so if you lend me transportation money, I will go back to Busan and wire it back to you," and pocketing a total of 1.76 million won from 13 victims.
Investigations revealed that when telling these lies, he had not actually lost his cell phone or wallet, and even if he borrowed money from the victims, he had no intention of paying it back.
Judge Kim stated, "He has repeatedly committed crimes using the same method, and in particular, given that this crime was committed during a recurring offense period for similar crimes, strict punishment is inevitable."
