Legislation Subpanel Passes Criminal Procedure Act Amendment to Abolish Prosecutors' Supplementary Investigation Powers Led by DP

An amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, which aims to abolish prosecutors' supplementary investigation powers, passed the 1st Subcommittee on Bill Review of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly tonight (July 28).

The Legislation and Judiciary Committee's 1st Subcommittee processed the Criminal Procedure Act amendment led by pan-ruling camp lawmakers today, while members belonging to the People Power Party walked out.

People Power Party members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee walked out during the subcommittee meeting, claiming that the Democratic Party was trying to unilaterally process the amendment without giving sufficient time for review.

The Democratic Party plans to sequentially hold a full committee meeting of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee tomorrow and a plenary session the day after tomorrow to complete the processing of the Criminal Procedure Act amendment.

If the People Power Party requests a filibuster at the plenary session the day after tomorrow, the amendment is expected to pass on July 31.
