Two protesters who assaulted a reporter at the site of a rally blockading a vote-counting station for the June 3 local elections are facing the possibility of arrest.
The Seoul Eastern District Court announced that it is holding a warrant review starting at 2:30 p.m. today (the 28th) for a woman in her 30s and a man in her 20s who are facing charges of assault resulting in injury and special confinement.
They are accused of confining and assaulting a reporter on June 5 in front of the site where the vote-counting station at the Jamsil Olympic Park Handball Stadium was being blockaded.
Previously, the JTBC branch of the Journalists Association of Korea stated that while the reporter was escaping through a window of the handball stadium where the exits were blocked, the protesters blocked the way, demanding that the reporter "prove you are not an Election Commission official."
According to a statement issued by the branch, the protesters assaulted the victim by hitting him with their hands and grabbing and shaking the strap of his backpack.
Songpa Police Station applied for arrest warrants for them on the 23rd.
