A teenager has been caught by the police after promising to pay a premium for a bundle of 50,000-won bills with consecutive identical serial numbers, only to steal them at the scene and flee.
The Gyeonggi Seongnam Sujeong Police Station announced today (July 28) that they have arrested a teenager identified as A in the act on charges of special larceny and are currently investigating the case.
Police are also tracking the whereabouts of two teenage accomplices.
A and the others are accused of stealing and fleeing with 100 50,000-won bills featuring consecutive identical serial numbers from a person identified as B on a street in Sujeong-gu, Seongnam, at 5:00 PM on July 27.
They had promised to purchase the banknotes from B through a second-hand trading application at a higher price than their face value. While talking with B at the designated meeting place, they snatched the shopping bag containing the banknotes and ran away.
Responding to the report of the crime, the police apprehended A at 6:00 PM the same day and are tracking down the remaining two suspects.
It was confirmed that A and the others are not juveniles under the criminal protection law (minors aged 10 to under 14 who are not criminally liable).
A police official stated, "The stolen funds have not been recovered as the accomplices are currently in possession of them," adding, "We have identified the accomplices and expect to apprehend them soon."
