As severe heatwaves approaching 40 degrees Celsius continue to grip Japan day after day, a variety of creative lifestyle products designed to lower body temperature in daily life are being released one after another, gaining surging popularity.
According to the Asahi Shimbun on the 28th, cosmetics maker Shiseido has launched "Sorbet Serum," an essence designed to be frozen in the freezer.
When frozen overnight, this product transforms from a gel into a sherbet-like texture, rapidly cooling down overheated skin with its signature crunchy feel.
Kobayashi Pharmaceutical drew attention by introducing a traditional herbal formula designed to alleviate sleep disturbances caused by tropical nights during the summer.
Household goods maker Unicharm introduced "cool-type" sanitary pads containing menthol to provide a refreshing sensation.
This product, which previously gained popularity in tropical climates such as Thailand and Vietnam, was introduced tailored to the Japanese market.
Unicharm has also rolled out various heat countermeasure products, including adult paper diapers that lower the internal temperature of the diaper by 2 degrees and cooling sheets for dogs.
The summer cooling products market is growing steeply.
According to market research firm Intage, the market size for "cooling products" in the household goods and cosmetics sectors, such as antiperspirants and cooling sheets, reached 58.3 billion yen (approx. 522.9 billion won) last year, surging by more than 50% in four years.
Experts analyzed that as heatwaves prolong, the demand for cooling products is surging not only in the traditional peak season of July and August, but also in June and September.
