At around 11:30 a.m. on the 27th (local time), a man attacked three women walking on the street with a weapon in northwestern Paris, France.
The victims were stabbed in the waist and abdomen and taken to a hospital, with two of them suffering serious injuries, the daily Le Parisien reported, citing police sources.
The mayor of the 17th arrondissement, where the incident occurred, stated in a separate statement that one of the victims was pregnant.
The suspect, who attacked the victims with two knives and wandered the streets afterward, was reportedly subdued by an off-duty police officer and other officers dispatched following his report.
An investigation official stated, "We initially focused on the possibility of terrorism because the suspect claimed that 'Allah sent me to kill women,' but he has been identified as mentally unstable," adding that the specific motives for the crime are currently under investigation.
