Cheong Wa Dae Denies Reports That Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho Offered to Resign

Regarding reports that Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho has offered to resign to Cheong Wa Dae, Cheong Wa Dae stated today (July 27) that it is not true.

An official from Cheong Wa Dae explained on the same day, "Minister Jeong's resignation offer has not been officially confirmed," adding, "It is not true that he offered to resign to Cheong Wa Dae."

Earlier in the day, Minister Jeong attended the plenary session of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, where he virtually expressed his intention to resign, stating, "Since prosecution reform has been mostly completed in broad terms, new wine must be put into new wineskins."

Previously, in front of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee meeting room, when reporters asked whether he offered to resign because of the party platform to abolish supplementary investigation rights, Minister Jeong explained, "My political future is not what is important."

He added, "The President has gone abroad to work for national interests, and it is inappropriate to talk about such things now." However, he did not answer the question of whether he would offer his resignation after the President returns from the overseas trip.

It was recently reported that Minister Jeong conveyed his intent to step down as minister and return to the party through Cheong Wa Dae aides, though it is understood that he has not directly offered his resignation to President Lee.
