President Lee Jae-myung, who is currently visiting three South American countries including Brazil following a stop in San Francisco, United States, stated, "The San Francisco AI Declaration serves as a national launchpad for the Republic of Korea to leap forward as an indispensable frontrunner leading the artificial intelligence era."
During a meeting with senior secretaries and advisors presided over via video link from the Brazilian capital of Brasilia at 9:00 p.m. local time on the 26th, President Lee said, "Having grown into a core global powerhouse, the Republic of Korea now stands at the cutting edge of the AI revolution, which will serve as a new turning point for human civilization."
He added, "We have elevated our cooperation to the level of an AI alliance and further strengthened the foundation for collaboration with world-class venture capital firms," and requested, "I ask that the government make every effort in follow-up measures to ensure these achievements lead to a greater economic leap and tangible improvements in the lives of our citizens."
He further noted, "We will make all-out efforts to lead the world not only in artificial intelligence, but also in other advanced industries and the cultural sector."
Previously, President Lee attended the AI Summit held in San Francisco, U.S., on the 24th local time.
The Cheong Wa Dae announced that on the occasion of this summit, domestic companies and global big tech firms agreed to pursue semiconductor cooperation totaling 950 billion dollars (approximately 1,375 trillion won).
On the 25th local time, President Lee visited Silicon Valley in the U.S. and met with executives from leading global venture capital firms, including Andreessen Horowitz and Khosla Ventures.
Promoting South Korea's outstanding investment environment, such as its world-class manufacturing base and digital infrastructure, President Lee requested investments in Korean startups and venture firms.
Promising to expand investment infrastructure through improvements to the visa system and support from research institutes and pension funds, he proposed combining U.S. investment capacity with South Korea's technological prowess and manufacturing competitiveness to jointly create global innovative companies on par with a second Samsung.
