South Korean billiards prodigy Kim Do-hyun has written a new chapter in history by defeating world number one Cho Myung-woo to become the youngest champion ever in a national billiards tournament.
Kim secured the top spot by defeating Cho 50 to 47 in the professional men's 3-cushion final at the 5th Incheon Metropolitan City Mayor's Cup National Billiards Tournament held at the Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon.
Lifting the championship trophy at 18 years and 22 days old, Kim shattered the previous record for the youngest national tournament victory (19 years and 5 months) previously held by Cho Myung-woo.
The final match was a thrilling showdown.
Kim came out firing from the very beginning, taking a commanding 21 to 0 lead in just four innings.
World number one Cho Myung-woo did not go down easily.
Displaying his signature focus, Cho launched a comeback, tying the score at 40 to 40 in the 22nd inning to level the match.
However, Kim regained the lead without wavering, maintaining his concentration until the end to claim a 50 to 47 victory.
In the women's 3-cushion final, Lee Bo-ra clinched a thrilling comeback victory over Kim Ha-eun 25 to 21, experiencing the joy of her first-ever national tournament title.
Lee struggled early on, trailing 6 to 12 until the 13th inning, but steadily closed the gap before reaching the 25-point mark first in the 30th inning to turn the match around.
