The Gyeonggi Provincial Office has launched an investigation into the facts after a post was uploaded to an internal anonymous bulletin board claiming that an employee faced disadvantages after rejecting a supervisor's sexual demands.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 24th, an employee uploaded a post containing these claims the previous day on "Wagle Wagle," an internal anonymous communication board for provincial office staff.
Wagle Wagle is a space where only provincial office employees can post, and the author did not reveal their own identity or that of the supervisor pointed out as the perpetrator.
In the post, the employee claimed, "In May 202X, that person told me to quit if I wouldn't meet them, and this went beyond pressure over refusing sexual demands into a threat." The employee added, "After refusing on the grounds that I wanted to protect my family, I experienced being excluded from work, and also went through situations where negative stories about me were spread to other employees."
"Since these things happened after I refused sexual demands, I had no choice but to take this as retaliation for the refusal," the employee added, noting, "Even now, working in the same team, I am suffering discomfort and mental stress from that past experience."
The post has since surpassed 2,300 views. As controversy spread among employees, Gyeonggi Governor Chu Mi-ae issued special directives on this day to protect the victim, thoroughly block secondary victimization, activate a reporting system directly under the Human Rights Officer for strict disciplinary action, and fundamentally establish a gender-equal organizational culture.
Governor Chu stated, "Regarding the recent sexual misconduct issue raised within the provincial office, take prudent and stern measures placing the victim's wishes as the top priority above all else."
Gyeonggi Province plans to initiate an investigation into the post and determine the facts.
