▲ Traffic congestion due to a tunnel accident
At around 11:40 AM today (July 24), a series of collisions involving six vehicles occurred in the Nogosan 1 Tunnel on the Capital Region First Ring Expressway heading toward Toegyewon in Jangheung-myeon, Yangju, Gyeonggi Province.
The accident reportedly triggered a fire in one of the vehicles, which spread to two nearby vehicles, leaving three people, including a driver, with minor injuries.
Fire authorities, responding to the emergency call, deployed 20 response vehicles and approximately 50 personnel, completely extinguishing the blaze at around 12:10 PM.
The accident took place in the first lane out of the four lanes near the entrance of the tunnel, and authorities temporarily blocked all lanes to handle the aftermath.
While police have restricted two lanes to carry out vehicle towing operations, they are investigating the exact cause and circumstances of the accident.
