A high schooler who asked to see a gold bar at a jewelry store before snatching it and fleeing, along with a middle schooler who acted as a lookout, have been caught by the police.
The Seoul Jongno Police Station announced today (July 24) that it has booked two individuals, including a high school student identified as A and a middle school student identified as B, on charges of special larceny.
They are accused of stealing a 10-don (approx. 37.5 grams) gold bar worth 7.5 million won from a jewelry store located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, at around 4:25 p.m. on July 17.
Student A asked the jewelry store owner to show him a gold bar and then fled with it.
The owner pursued Student A for about 70 meters, caught him, and handed him over to the police.
Student A was carrying a weapon in his pocket at the time of the crime.
The police searched the surrounding area and emergency-arrested Student B, who had been acting as a lookout outside the jewelry store.
While arrest warrants were requested for both students, the court issued a warrant only for Student B.
In the case of Student A, who directly stole the gold bar, the court determined that there was no risk of destroying evidence.
The police plan to investigate the details of their crime and forward the case to the prosecution soon.
