Need to Care for a Sick Child? Short-Term Parental Leave Offered Instead of Annual Leave

It is emergency parental leave.

When a child suddenly falls ill or is unable to go to school, parents will be able to use short-term parental leave instead of taking annual paid leave.

This short-term parental leave system will take effect on August 20.

Previously, parental leave had to be used for at least 30 days to receive benefits.

Now, parents can take parental leave for durations of one or two weeks and still receive benefits during situations such as a child's school vacation, school closure, hospitalization, or suspension of attendance due to infectious diseases.

It can be used once a year for children aged 8 or younger (or in the second grade of elementary school or lower), and the used period will be deducted from the total allowable parental leave duration.
