Following Chung Mong-gyu's resignation, the deadline for electing the next Korea Football Association (KFA) president has been significantly extended from the previous "within 60 days" to a maximum of 8 months.
The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee held a board meeting and revised its regulations to allow the presidential election for member sports organizations to be postponed for up to 8 months.
While the existing "within 60 days" rule is maintained, unavoidable circumstances now allow the deadline to be extended by 60 days up to three times—adding up to 6 months—thereby extending the total possible timeframe to up to 8 months.
As a result, the upcoming KFA presidential election can be held by early March next year, without time constraints, after overhauling relevant systems such as expanding the electoral college.
The K-Football Innovation Committee is currently pushing to expand the electoral college to at least several thousand people.
