The National Assembly is set to complete the formation of the standing committees for the latter half of the 22nd National Assembly today (July 23) by electing the chairs allocated to the People Power Party.
During a plenary session this afternoon, rivaling parties will elect chairs for seven standing committees, including the Education Committee; Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee; Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee; Health and Welfare Committee; Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee; Intelligence Committee; and Gender Equality and Family Committee.
Under the National Assembly Act, standing committee chairs must be appointed through a vote in a plenary session.
Previously on June 30, the National Assembly proceeded with the election of chairs for 10 standing committees—including the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, House Steering Committee, and Public Administration and Security Committee—along with the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, led by the pan-ruling bloc including the Democratic Party of Korea.
As a result, the formation of the panels for the latter half of the term will be completed approximately 54 days after the opening of the session on May 30.
