▲ Firefighters search for a missing person in the Bukcheon
At 3:19 PM yesterday (July 22), a 119 emergency report was received stating that an elementary school student, identified as A, had gone missing while playing in the water at the Bukcheon in Gyisan-dong, Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
Fire authorities conducted a search and found student A about 1 hour and 40 minutes after the missing person report, 30 meters downstream from the point where she went missing.
Student A, who was in a state of cardiac arrest at the time of discovery, was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
It is reported that student A met with the tragedy while being with six friends.
Police and fire authorities believe student A met with the accident while playing in the water near the stepping stones of the Bukcheon, and are investigating the exact circumstances.
