President Lee Jae-myung will host a large-scale public debate today (the 23rd) to discuss the direction of real estate policies with citizens.
The National Debate on Real Estate Policies, scheduled to run for 100 minutes starting at 10 a.m. today, will be attended by a total of 140 people, including YouTubers, members of real estate and parenting online communities, representatives from relevant civic groups and real estate agencies, financial sector workers, journalists, and professors.
A number of key officials will also participate, including Prime Minister Han Sung-sook, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy Koo Yoon-cheol, Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoon-deok, and Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Eok-won.
After listening to the results of preliminary opinion gathering and presentations by experts in the fields of housing supply, finance, and taxation, the participants are scheduled to engage in an open debate.
Previously, President Lee presented key issues for the debate, including the appropriate level of property holding taxes, their relationship with transaction taxes, the use of holding tax revenues, whether and how to apply differential tax rates to owner-occupied, non-owner-occupied, and ultra-luxury homes, and the criteria for doing so.
The government is expected to reflect the results of today's debate into its final tax revision proposal and announce it as early as the end of this month.
