▲ 119 emergency rescue workers search for the missing person in Jucheongang River, Yeongwol
A man in his 40s who went missing after being swept away by swift currents in the Jucheongang River in Yeongwol amid torrential downpours in Gangwon Province has been found dead five days after the search began.
According to the police and fire authorities today (July 22), a body was discovered at 10:31 a.m. in the bushes near Hwashin Bridge in Sincheon-ri, Hanbando-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, about 3.7 kilometers away from the point where he went missing.
After verifying the identity, police confirmed that the body was that of Mr. A, a man in his 40s who went missing in the Jucheongang River five days ago.
Previously, on July 18 at 7:59 p.m., when heavy rain battered the Gangwon region, Mr. A was swept away by a rapid current while crossing a weir to go fishing in the Jucheongang River in Yongseok-ri, Jucheon-myeon, Yeongwol-gun.
Two colleagues who came fishing with Mr. A at the time witnessed the incident and reported it to 119, prompting a five-day search operation that continued through today.
Police plan to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
