▲ Search operation site for the missing person in the Jucheongang River, Yeongwol
A body, presumed to be a person in their 40s who went missing in the Jucheongang River in Yeongwol amid torrential downpours hitting the Gangwon region, has been found on the fifth day of the search.
According to police and fire authorities today (July 22), the body, believed to be A in their 40s, was found at around 10:31 AM in the bushes near Hwashinkyo Bridge in Sincheon-ri, Hanbando-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, about 3.7 kilometers away from the point where the person went missing.
Police plan to verify the exact identity as soon as fire authorities retrieve the body.
Previously, at 7:59 PM on July 18, when heavy rain battered the Gangwon region, A was swept away by a rapid current while crossing a weir to go fishing in the Jucheongang River in Yongseok-ri, Jucheon-myeon, Yeongwol-gun.
Two companions who had come fishing with A at the time witnessed the incident and reported it to 119, prompting a search operation that lasted for five days.
