A man in his 40s has been arrested by police in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, after crashing his vehicle into two police patrol cars while driving under the influence, injuring four police officers.
The Gimpo Police Station announced on the 22nd that they have apprehended and are currently investigating a man in his 40s, identified by his surname A, on charges including special obstruction of official duties resulting in injury and drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
A is accused of driving under the influence in Yangchon-eup, Gimpo-si, at around 10:13 p.m. yesterday (the 21st) and ramming into patrol cars, injuring four officers, including Police Inspector B.
According to the investigation, A ignored police orders to pull over after officers arrived at the scene following a report suspecting drunk driving, and instead drove into two patrol cars consecutively.
Due to the accident, Inspector B suffered a wrist fracture, while three other officers received hospital treatment for bruises and other minor injuries.
It was also confirmed that one of the two patrol cars was severely damaged to the point of being inoperable.
Police arrested A at the scene and measured his blood alcohol level, which was found to be 0.08% or higher, a level warranting the revocation of his driver's license.
A police official stated, "A attempted to flee after spotting the patrol cars and caused the accident," adding, "We are reviewing whether to apply for an arrest warrant."
