Government Pushes to Increase National Pension Credit for Second Child to 15 Months

There is news that benefits from the National Pension Service will increase for those who have a second child.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare is pushing for a plan to increase the recognized period of National Pension enrollment for the birth of a second child from the current 12 months to 15 months.

The childbirth credit is a system that recognizes periods of National Pension enrollment even if an individual is unable to pay premiums due to a temporary career break for childbirth.

As the enrollment period increases, the amount of pension received in the future will also increase.

Currently, 12 months are recognized for both the first and second child, but the new policy aims to contribute to resolving the low birth rate by granting a longer period for the second child.

The government is pushing for the relevant legal amendments within this year.

If the bill is passed, it will mark the first change to the system in 19 years since its introduction in 2008.
