The Asian Tour, which organizes professional golf tournaments in the Asian region, has ended its relationship with LIV Golf and restored its alliance with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour.
In a joint statement released on the night of July 21, the Asian Tour announced that it has entered into a partnership with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour until 2029 to expand participation opportunities for Asian golfers and strengthen pathways for them to advance.
As a result, it is expected that the likelihood of co-sanctioned tournaments between the Asian Tour and these tours will increase starting next season.
Details regarding this will be announced at the end of this year, when the DP World Tour unveils its schedule for the next season.
This partnership signifies a restoration of the relationship between the Asian Tour and the DP World Tour, which held co-sanctioned tournaments from 2016 to 2021.
The Asian Tour and the DP World Tour previously co-sanctioned 108 tournaments, 21 of which were co-sanctioned by three organizations, including the Sunshine Tour in South Africa or the PGA Tour of Australasia.
This partnership also marks the separation between the Asian Tour and LIV Golf.
LIV Golf, backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), had previously supported the Asian Tour and the International Series with 300 million dollars, or approximately 450 billion Korean won.
However, after Saudi Arabia ceased funding for golf tournaments earlier this year, the financial support for the International Series was also cut off.
For this reason, it appears the Asian Tour has sought a new path forward by re-aligning with the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour.
