As a heavy rain warning has been issued for the western region of Seoul, access to all streams across the city is currently restricted.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that due to the influence of a stationary front, the city experienced intense rainfall reaching a maximum of 53.5mm per hour at one point early this morning, July 21.
Consequently, all 29 streams within Seoul, including Jungnangcheon, Cheonggyecheon, and Yangjaecheon, have been closed to the public.
The underpass at Jeungsan Bridge was also temporarily closed early this morning, but access was restored at approximately 5:17 a.m.
The city is currently operating two rainwater pumping stations partially to assist with drainage efforts.
A total of 12 reports of rain-related damage have been received, including 7 requests for drainage assistance, 1 report of a fallen tree, and 4 instances requiring safety measures for facilities.
In anticipation of the heavy downpour, the Seoul Metropolitan Government activated its emergency response level 1 starting at 11:00 p.m. last night.
A total of 3,206 personnel, including city and district officials, have been deployed for emergency duty.
The city has requested all departments and affiliated organizations to strictly manage the safety of vulnerable areas, such as streams and low-lying regions.
Authorities have inspected sewer rainwater grates and conducted patrols in areas prone to landslides.
On-site personnel have been stationed at underground roadways, and monitoring has been intensified.
The Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heavy rain advisory for the southwestern and northwestern parts of Seoul effective as of 3:20 a.m.
A heavy rain advisory is issued when rainfall is expected to reach 60mm or more over three hours or 110mm or more over 12 hours.
Eunpyeong-gu recorded the highest rainfall in Seoul.
Since yesterday, Eunpyeong-gu has seen a cumulative rainfall of up to 71.5mm, with a peak intensity of 53.5mm per hour at one point.
The rain in Seoul is forecast to continue until tomorrow morning.
The expected precipitation for Seoul today is between 30 and 100mm.
