A crocodile was discovered in a stream in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, over the weekend, and authorities are currently searching for its owner.
According to Yeoju City, a report was received on July 18 regarding a 50cm-long crocodile spotted in Soyang Stream in Yeoju.
Firefighters dispatched to the scene captured the crocodile within 30 minutes. It was then handed over to Yeoju City and is currently being temporarily cared for at a private animal shelter.
It is presumed that the crocodile was kept as a pet at home and subsequently abandoned.
Yeoju City plans to post a notice regarding the abandoned animal on the shelter's website for 10 days to locate the owner.
If no owner comes forward during this period, the crocodile will be sent to the National Institute of Ecology.
