Two police officers have been referred to the prosecution on charges of taking a suspect to a location not specified in the arrest warrant for interrogation.
According to the police on July 20, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency's Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit referred two officers from the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, identified as Inspector A and Lieutenant B, to the prosecution without detention on July 2.
Inspector A and the other officer are accused of taking a suspect, who was under investigation for violating the National Security Act, to an office other than the one specified in the arrest warrant after arresting them on July 29 of last year, and interrogating them for approximately 100 minutes.
The arrest warrant obtained by Inspector A and the other officer stated that the location for bringing in the suspect was the Incheon Samsan Police Station or a police station near the site of the arrest. However, it was found that they had taken the suspect to the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's Security Investigation Unit office for questioning.
Bringing in a suspect refers to the procedure of taking an arrested individual to a location designated by the court or the investigative agency.
The police believe that Inspector A and the other officer made a mistake in the process of specifying the detention and bring-in locations when applying for the arrest warrant.
It was reported that the police later confirmed there were issues with the procedure used by Inspector A and the other officer, and subsequently released the suspect.
A police official stated, "We referred the case because we determined there were illegal aspects in the investigation procedure."
