Russian Foreign Minister Says 'Secret Communication' Between Putin and Kim Jong-un Is Important

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, who is currently visiting Moscow, and stated that "it is important that secret communication between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un continues."

According to TASS news agency on the 20th (local time), Lavrov mentioned, "I would like to note that President Putin and Chairman Kim attended the 80th anniversary ceremony of the Victory Day held in Beijing on September 3 last year together."

Lavrov noted that 2 years have passed since the two leaders held a summit in Pyongyang in June 2024, and stated that "the decisions adopted by the leaders of both countries are being consistently implemented."

Regarding the North Korean troops deployed to the Kursk front since October 2024, he emphasized, "They have sacrificed their lives while contributing to liberating Russian land from Ukrainian Nazis," adding, "The Russian people will never forget their courage and dedication."

Foreign Minister Choe said, "Through my meeting with Comrade Putin yesterday, I have further solidified my conviction that the relationship between North Korea and Russia will continue to develop thanks to the strategic leadership of the two countries' leaders and the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries."

She reaffirmed her support, stating, "Russia's 'special military operation' is a sacred war to eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity."

Foreign Minister Choe arrived in Russia on the 18th and met with President Putin the following day.

This visit to Russia by Foreign Minister Choe, which took place without a clear public occasion, is the first in about 9 months since October last year, leading to speculation that it is to coordinate a visit to Russia by Chairman Kim.
