It has been reported that the apartment in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, which was jointly owned by President Lee Jae-myung and his wife, Kim Hye-kyung, has been sold for 2.9 billion won.
According to the Supreme Court registry, the transfer of ownership for the apartment was completed on July 16. Notably, the buyers established a collateral security (mortgage) of 1.777 billion won in favor of the President and his wife.
It is understood that the buyers have expressed their intention to pay the remaining balance by the end of October.
Industry experts interpret this as a contract structure where the President allowed the buyers time to secure funds, facilitating a faster sale of the property.
In this regard, the Blue House also provided an explanation, stating, "The details on the registry are due to the buyer's circumstances."
Furthermore, the Blue House emphasized, "President Lee recently completed the sale of his home for 2.9 billion won, which is lower than the market price. Although there is no obligation to sell as a single-home owner, this measure demonstrates his commitment to realizing real estate normalization policies."
Previously, President Lee put the apartment on the market in February, and a preliminary contract was signed shortly thereafter.
During a Cabinet meeting on July 14, after receiving a report from ministries on the "Plan to Collect Public Opinion on Real Estate Policy," President Lee remarked to Prime Minister Han Seong-sook during the discussion, "I no longer have a house."
