The Hanwha Eagles of the KBO League have selected left-handed pitcher Bruce Zimmermann (29) as their new foreign player.
The club announced today (July 20) that they have signed Zimmermann to a contract worth up to $440,000, including a $70,000 signing bonus, a $300,000 salary, and $70,000 in incentives.
Zimmermann, a tall left-hander standing 190 cm, is noted for his excellent command and precise corner work.
He is characterized by his ability to throw a variety of pitches, including a fastball in the mid-to-high 140 km/h range, as well as a slider, forkball, sinker, cutter, and curveball.
His career record in Major League Baseball (MLB) spans six seasons, during which he appeared in 40 games (28 starts), pitched 169⅓ innings, and recorded 8 wins, 11 losses, a 5.63 ERA, and 129 strikeouts.
This season, he pitched in 15 games at the Triple-A level, all as a starter, posting a 5-3 record with a 3.78 ERA.
He also made one appearance on the mound in the major leagues while wearing a St. Louis Cardinals uniform, allowing 3 runs over 5 innings.
After finalizing the contract, Zimmermann shared his thoughts through the club, stating, "I am truly happy to have the opportunity to join Hanwha." He added, "Having spent the last three years moving between the major and minor leagues, I have always thought about challenging myself in the Korean league one day. I am grateful to the club for trusting me and giving me this opportunity."
He continued, "Former teammates who played here told me many good things about the KBO League. Watching recent international tournaments, I felt that the level of Asian baseball has grown significantly, and I wanted to prove my skills on that stage as well. I will do my best to understand the team's situation, adapt quickly, and contribute to the team."
