A fire broke out in a three-story building at a traditional market in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, around 10:30 p.m. yesterday (July 17), and the main flames were brought under control in about 40 minutes.
As of now, one person has sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Two residents from the second and third floors evacuated on their own, and three others were rescued.
Upon receiving the report, fire authorities dispatched 21 pieces of equipment and 52 personnel, and at one point issued a Level 1 emergency response to conduct firefighting operations.
Fire authorities completed the initial containment around 11:10 p.m. that night and are currently checking for any additional casualties.
Authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the scale of the damage once the fire is completely extinguished.
