The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it has entered emergency response mode as heavy rain is expected across the region.
As of the night of July 17, Constitution Day, a preliminary heavy rain advisory has been issued for all of Seoul, with forecasts predicting strong and heavy rainfall from the early hours to the afternoon of tomorrow, July 18.
The expected precipitation in Seoul from this evening, July 17, through July 19 is between 100 and 200 mm, with some areas expected to receive over 300 mm.
In response, the Seoul Metropolitan Government activated its emergency response system under the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters starting at 10:00 p.m. today.
The city has issued a Level 1 alert, the "caution" stage, regarding the rainfall situation. Currently, 347 city officials and 2,859 district officials are on duty to prepare for the heavy rain.
As of 10:00 p.m., all 29 streams within Seoul have been closed, and access to four riverside parking lots has also been restricted.
The city is also inspecting and cleaning rainwater gutters and deploying personnel to underpasses to prevent potential safety accidents.
For 925 households in semi-basement homes identified as vulnerable to disasters, the city has conducted advance visits or provided weather information via phone calls and text messages.
