The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters as of 9:00 p.m. today (July 17), following the issuance of heavy rain advisories for Daegu, Gyeonggi Province, South Chungcheong Province, and North Gyeongsang Province.
Yoon Ho-jung, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Minister of the Interior and Safety), instructed local governments and relevant agencies to "strengthen response postures, including thorough situation management and reporting systems, as the heaviest rainfall of this summer is forecast."
He also urged them to inspect areas that have already received significant rainfall, as well as regions previously affected by heavy rain or forest fires, to prevent damage such as landslides, and to ensure full preparedness for traffic control and preemptive evacuations if necessary.
Furthermore, he emphasized the need to utilize all available means, such as emergency disaster text messages, village broadcasts, and civil defense broadcasting equipment, to promote public safety guidelines, especially as heavy rainfall is expected to be concentrated during the night.
