President Lee Jae-myung issued a warning to cabinet members and heads of public institutions during a policy briefing, stating, "There are still people who do not know what their duties are. This is unacceptable."
President Lee, who presided over the briefing at the Yeongbingwan of the Blue House on the morning of July 16, remarked, "It looks much better than the first policy briefing," but pointed out that there are still shortcomings in some areas.
He specifically reprimanded them, saying, "If you cannot even grasp the basic outline of your agency's most important tasks, this is absolutely intolerable. How could that be?"
He continued, "I am giving you a warning in advance: if there are parts of your duties that are not understood in future briefings, you should stay up all night to at least grasp the minimum requirements of your work before coming."
President Lee criticized the officials, asking, "Is it acceptable to enjoy all the benefits provided by the taxes that citizens work hard to pay, while having no interest in the laws and the duties entrusted to you by the people?"
He further emphasized, "One hour of a public official's time is worth 52 million hours. Every action, judgment, and decision you make affects 52 million people."
President Lee added, "I felt that some might not be properly recognizing this gravity. I trust that there will be no such people in the future."
On the morning of July 16, President Lee received policy briefings from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Communications Commission, and the Personal Information Protection Commission.
