Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who is currently visiting Japan to meet with representatives from semiconductor materials companies, praised SK Hynix's listing of American Depositary Receipts (ADR) on the Nasdaq, calling it "incredibly successful."
CEO Huang shared his thoughts after attending an event in Akihabara, Tokyo, yesterday (July 15) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Nvidia and Japanese game company SEGA. When asked by reporters for his opinion on the SK Hynix ADR Nasdaq listing, he responded that he was "very happy."
SK Hynix is a key partner that supplies high-performance HBM, a core component for AI semiconductors, to Nvidia.
Huang's remarks are interpreted as an indication that the influx of investment capital following the SK Hynix ADR Nasdaq listing is a positive signal for the expansion of Nvidia's AI ecosystem.
In addition, CEO Huang announced plans to unveil a large-scale AI collaboration with the Japanese government.
"Tomorrow (July 16) will be the starting point for AI in Japan," Huang said, adding that he plans to announce multifaceted collaborations with major Japanese corporations in the fields of AI and robotics.
Analysts suggest that Huang, who faced controversy for "passing over" Japan during his recent two visits to South Korea, has been preparing for AI collaborations with the Japanese government and major manufacturing firms, which have recently been focusing on expanding their AI base.
At the 30th-anniversary event with SEGA, CEO Huang met with SEGA CEO Haruki Satomi, former President Shoichiro Irimajiri, and "Virtua Fighter" developer Yu Suzuki. He highly praised their contributions, stating that without the Japanese gaming industry, which pioneered 3D graphics, Nvidia and today's AI technology would not exist.
While Huang previously held meetings over "chimaek" (fried chicken and beer) and samgyeopsal with leaders of major global partners in South Korea, such as Samsung Electronics, SK, and Hyundai Motor, he is focusing on business expansion in Japan by holding meetings over yakitori (skewered chicken) with the gaming industry and semiconductor materials company officials.
