A man in his 60s has been sentenced to two years in prison for strangling his wife to death after a failed attempt at a joint suicide following her diagnosis of suspected bone cancer.
The Cheongju District Court, presided over by Judge Han Sang-won of the 22nd Criminal Division, sentenced the defendant, identified as A, to two years in prison today (July 16) on charges of homicide upon request.
A was indicted on charges of strangling his wife, B (in her 60s), to death at a motel in Boeun-eup, Boeun-gun, North Chungcheong Province, at 9:00 p.m. on January 9.
According to the investigation, A had decided to commit suicide with his wife after she received a medical opinion suspecting bone cancer. They took sleeping pills, but the attempt failed when A woke up. He then committed the crime after his wife requested that he kill her.
