▲ People Power Party Representative Jang Dong-hyeok and Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik attend a general meeting of lawmakers at the National Assembly on the 13th, condemning the Democratic Party of Korea for pushing to abolish the prosecution's supplementary investigation rights.
The People Power Party has urged the withdrawal of the proposed amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, which centers on abolishing the prosecution's supplementary investigation rights, stating that the Democratic Party of Korea has "fallen into a quagmire of internal strife" as disagreements emerge even within its own ranks.
The Democratic Party held a general meeting of lawmakers yesterday, July 14, to discuss the amendment, but internal discord surfaced as a significant number of lawmakers demanded what they called a "speed adjustment" regarding the legislation.
In a commentary today, People Power Party Chief Spokesperson Park Sung-hoon pointed out, "The confusion has reached its peak, to the point where a separate bill has been proposed suggesting that supplementary investigation rights should be retained for exceptional cases such as sexual violence."
Park continued his criticism, stating, "It is truly unsightly to see them pushing for a bill that will shake the nation's judicial system while failing to find their own direction and wavering," adding, "It is only right to immediately scrap an irresponsible bill that cannot even convince those within their own party."
