Looking at the live footage, the rain seems to have eased, but we must keep a close watch on how the situation develops overnight. Let us discuss this in more detail with Seo Donggyun from our weather team.
Reporter Seo, where is the rainfall currently concentrated?
[Reporter]
First, let us take a look at the radar imagery to track the rain clouds.
A low-pressure system originating from Typhoon Bavi is now fully affecting the Korean Peninsula as it moves along the West Sea.
If we zoom in on the map to see where and how much rain is falling, we can see that precipitation is currently concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area and the Honam region.
The areas marked in red on the map are where intense rain is currently focused, with heavy downpours of around 20mm per hour.
Let us check the CCTV footage.
First, this is the Igang Intersection in Ganghwa. You can see the CCTV shaking due to very strong wind and rain, and the surrounding trees are swaying significantly.
The heavy rain has made the CCTV view quite blurry.
Let us also look at Yeoksam Station in Seoul.
This area also has many street trees. You can see the trees swaying violently and heavy rain falling there as well.
However, the rain is expected to intensify overnight.
Until tonight, July 14, torrential rain of 30 to 50mm per hour is expected in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province, and in the early hours, in the northern part of Gangwon Province. Other central regions and the Honam region are also forecast to receive 20 to 30mm of rain per hour, so please take thorough precautions against safety accidents overnight.

The winds were quite strong during the day today. Will it be okay at night?
[Reporter]
Let us look at the wind data as well.
This data shows wind speeds, and the areas marked in green are where strong winds are currently blowing.
Strong winds, represented in green, are mainly affecting the western part of the country.
Earlier this afternoon, typhoon-level gusts exceeding 25 meters per second were recorded in Taean, South Chungcheong Province.
Let us examine the cause of these strong winds.
The low-pressure system bringing rain clouds to the country is drawing wind toward the peninsula, while high pressure from the south is also pushing air in, creating strong winds.
Behind the low-pressure system, dry air is descending. Since dry air is heavy, it triggers downdrafts, which could lead to even stronger winds overnight.
Currently, strong wind advisories are in effect, mainly for the western regions, and these are expected to expand overnight.
Once this rain stops, a heat wave will continue for a while, and then the monsoon front will become active again, mainly in the southern regions.
This monsoon front is expected to affect the country through the weekend, bringing monsoon rain to various parts of the nation.
