The death toll from a bar fire in the Thai capital of Bangkok has risen to 30, with approximately 20 people reported to be in critical condition.
Bangkok city authorities stated that three more people, who had been receiving treatment in the hospital for severe injuries, passed away following the major fire that broke out on the night of the 12th at the bar "Long Beer Na Lat Phrao" in the Chatuchak district of northern Bangkok.
The total number of fatalities from this fire has now increased to 30.
This incident has become the deadliest fire in Thailand since the 2009 New Year's Day blaze at the famous Bangkok club "Santika," which claimed 67 lives.
Among the 75 injured people hospitalized, 24 are in critical condition, while 15 sustained minor injuries.
Bangkok's disaster management authorities reported that initial investigations suggest a short circuit in the air conditioning unit installed on the ceiling of the bar may have been the cause of the fire.
In particular, regarding the circumstances that led to such large-scale casualties, the police are focusing on issues such as the availability of emergency exits, electrical wiring overloads, and the use of flammable materials.
Tirat Panphet, the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, stated, "Most of the victims were found in the restrooms. They were in a state of panic when the fire broke out. The lights were off."
He added that they are investigating whether two of the four total exits in the single-story establishment were blocked or unusable.
In fact, it has been reported that the exit near the restroom, where most of the victims were found, was blocked by tables, and the exit toward the kitchen was missing a door handle.
