▲ "We want to return to our daily lives"... Suffering victims in Venezuela
The South Korean government announced today (July 14) that it has decided to provide an additional $3.5 million, approximately 5.2 billion won, in humanitarian aid following the expansion of earthquake damage in Venezuela.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, $3 million of this aid will be used for debris removal activities through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The remaining $500,000 will be used to provide tents in kind to accommodate displaced persons, as requested by the Venezuelan government.
The government previously decided last month to provide $5 million in humanitarian aid to Venezuela through international organizations.
On June 24, a series of earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 struck northern Venezuela. So far, 4,561 deaths, over 16,000 injuries, over 17,000 displaced persons, and more than 1,200 aftershocks have been reported.
