The National Assembly special committee investigating the ballot paper shortage during the June 3 local elections held a debate over the schedule for a proposed vote recount.
During the first hearing held today (July 14), Chairman Yoon Sang-hyun of the special committee stated, "It is time to reach a conclusion on the discussion regarding the recount of ballots currently stored at the Songpa Handball Gymnasium."
In response, Democratic Party members argued, "As there is not much time left in the parliamentary investigation period, we must prioritize the recount and proceed with it swiftly." Conversely, People Power Party members expressed a negative stance toward an immediate recount, stating, "The ballot boxes are subject to search and seizure by the special prosecutor," and warned that "a recount could amount to tampering with evidence."
