An Urban Air Mobility (UAM) aircraft currently under development by a domestic company is set to make its debut.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced today (July 14) that it will host the K-UAM Flight Showcase at the INU Innovation Center at Incheon National University on July 15, where it will demonstrate the flight of a UAM aircraft developed by Sambo Motors Group.
This event is part of the 2026 Korea Drone & UAM Expo, co-hosted by the Ministry and Incheon Metropolitan City at Songdo Convensia in Incheon.
While the OPPAV, the first domestic UAM aircraft developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), conducted a flight demonstration in 2023, this marks the first time an aircraft developed by a domestic private company will be unveiled.
During the demonstration, the UAM aircraft is scheduled to perform a vertical takeoff via remote control and hover at an altitude of 5 meters.
The event will also showcase the aircraft's flight control and monitoring, electric propulsion system, and safety management framework.
The government has been supporting the foundation for K-UAM commercialization, including vertiports (takeoff and landing sites), operational frameworks, traffic management systems, and communication and air traffic control, while the private sector has been focused on aircraft development.
Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoon-duck stated, "With the goal of commercializing UAM by 2028, we will thoroughly verify everything step-by-step, from simple operations to complex ones." He added, "I hope this first step toward future mobility by our companies will develop into a mode of transportation that changes the daily lives of the public in the near future."
